  • By plane

Belgium’s international airport is situated in Brussels ( From Brussels Airport it is possible to travel by train ( to Ghent. At the airport, follow the signs to the train station, which is below ground level. Buy a ticket (also possible online) for Ghent-St-Pieters station at the counter in the train station of the airport. The price for a single fare (Brussels Airport – Ghent-St-Pieters) is €15,40 (Diabolo surcharge included). You can board the direct train to Ghent or you can take the shuttle train to Brussels Central Station, which runs every 15 minutes. There, you can change to a train to Ghent.  From Ghent-St-Pieters station, you can take several busses and trams to the centre of Ghent.

Another airport is Charleroi Brussels South International airport ( If you have the choice between Brussels International and Charleroi Brussels South, Brussels International Airport (Zaventem) is the best option, as there are better train connections with Ghent there (cfr. infra). When coming from Charleroi Brussels South International Airport, you have two options to travel to Ghent: take a shuttle bus to Bruxelles-Midi (Brussels South) and catch a train to Ghent Sint Pieters from there (, or take bus A to Charleroi railway station:

  • The Brussels City Shuttle can be found directly outside the terminal, leaves every 30 minutes and the €13 ticket can be purchased online in advance, from the driver, or via one of the streetside vending machines. From Zuid/Midi station it is possible to travel by train ( to Ghent.  Buy a ticket for Ghent-St-Pieters station in the train station or online in advance. The price for a single fare (Brussels Zuid/Midi station – Ghent-St-Pieters) is € 8,90.
  • Those opting for Charleroi’s train station first take bus A to Charleroi railway station, subsequently take a train to Brussels Zuid/Midi station and change trains there to Ghent-Sint-Pieters. The price for a single ticket (Charleroi-South-Airport to Ghent Sint-Pieters, bus A included) is €20.50; the ticket can be purchased in advance online ( or at one of the streetside vending machines.

  • By train

  • By bus

If you’re planning to travel by bus or coach, you can contact Eurolines (  The bus stop at Koningin Elisabethlaan 73 is near Ghent-St-Pieters train station.

  • By car

If you decide to come by car, you will find Ghent at the crossroads of two big motorways, E17 and E40. Choose exit “Gent” and first follow the direction “Gent-Centrum”, after which you follow “other directions”. Nearby the conference venue, which is situated in the middle of the old city centre, there is an underground parking lot, the ‘Vrijdagmarkt’ parking (P1, €11/day).
